From Some Remove EP
“Baxter is a gifted singer/songwriter who is attempting the near-impossible: to write songs about Australia while living in Ireland. The result is an interesting and provocative interplay between two different cultures”
Bruce Elder - Sydney Morning Herald
The above review was for The Blue Black Waves and captures Peter’s quest pretty succinctly but he’s also writing songs about Ireland while living in Ireland and with a heavy Australian accent. In fact, trying to find out where he belongs. An experience that is not unique and seems to resonate with many other people, we are all trying to find our place in the world at some point or other and the concept of culture and heritage fascinates Peter and informs my work.
This EP continues that process and features specially commissioned original oil-painted artwork created by Brisbane artist Glenn Brady. The album was recorded in both Ireland and Australia over a period of time including during lockdown which presented the opportunity to revisit some recordings that had begun with Dónal Lunny in Dublin several years before and continue in Australia with producers David Bridie and Mick Thomas. Another track What If includes Organ recorded in The US by Robyn Robbins (Bob Seeger’s Silver Bullet Band) There are a number of musicians from several countries and different cultural backgrounds involved in the songs and these recordings fuse wonderful sonic textures that weave around the lyrics and voice to create something unique.
